The Europe - Ivory Coast Expedition is the first segment of the Trans Africa West: The Long Way Down. Due to the length of the Trans Africa Expedition, we have divided it into two parts, which you can book separately. On this motorcycle expedition, you will experience a travel that goes from southern Spain all the way to Marocco, passing through northern Africa towards the jungles of Benin. Or if you prefer, from your home country!
So, if you don't have 55 days for the Long Way Down Expedition West, this is the right choice for you for the northern part.
On our motorcycle expedition, we ride from the southernmost point of Spain, Algeciras, to Benin, Africa, into the jungle.
You have two travel options:
1. Travel from home with your motorcycle to Algeciras and save on the flight.
2. Have your motorcycle transported by us to Algeciras and avoid the frostbite of the journey.
Together, we will cover 8,100 breathtaking kilometers and discover foreign countries on rugged tracks.
When it comes to motorcycle and enduro expeditions, you are in good hands with the OVERCROSS Tour Operator team. We have been offering the Trans Africa Expedition for motorcycle and off-road vehicle since 2016.

Travel itinerary of this motorcycle tour, from Europe to Ivory Coast:
After receiving the motorcycle or arriving with your own motorcycle from your home country, we embark on the ferry following a tour briefing. We cross from Algeciras to Ceuta by ferry. We begin the Europe - Ivory Coast Expedition with spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, riding along the Moroccan coast and heading south through Morocco. We ride through diverse landscapes, from flat coastal plains up into the High Atlas Mountains, where we cross the Tizi n'Test Pass at 2,093 meters. We then continue on this motorcycle journey through picturesque fishing villages along the Atlantic coast. Finally, we cross the border into Western Sahara and reach El Aaiun, the largest city in Western Sahara with 218,000 inhabitants. Through arid desert landscapes, we have breathtaking views of the Atlantic from our motorcycles.
With the Yamaha Tenere on the Europe - Ivory Coast Expedition
Up to the economic center of Mauritania, Nouadhibou, we ride through desert landscapes where sandy plains and rocky areas alternate. We pass through Mauritania's capital, Nouakchott, and set our sights on the endless sand dunes of the Mauritanian desert.
Upon arriving in Senegal, we continue our motorcycle tour through the charming colonial city of St. Louis. Through the Sahel zone, a transition region between the dry savanna to the south and the Sahara desert to the north, we reach Dakar. We proceed on dusty tracks through picturesque villages and savannah landscapes. Our motorcycle journey takes us deeper inland through vast grasslands and dense forests.
The further route challenges our off-road driving skills and our motorcycles with demanding tracks. After crossing the border into Guinea, we ride from Kounda towards Mamou. We navigate through dense bushland, with open spots offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and hills.
After gaining insights into the lives of locals in traditional villages, we reach Kankan, the largest city in Guinea with 191,000 inhabitants. It doesn’t get easier: on challenging tracks, we head towards Sopota. Here, the landscape becomes increasingly arid and desert-like. Riding through sand dunes and rocky terrain, we can fully enjoy the breathtaking scenery on the motorcycle tour. Eventually, we reach a remote oasis, Sopota.
In Ivory Coast, we continue on the motorcycle expedition through Man and Gagnoa, riding on winding roads through lush rainforests and dense vegetation. Over sandy tracks, we reach the coastal regions of Ivory Coast and regain a clear view of the Atlantic Ocean.
After crossing the border into Ghana, we continue our motorcycle journey. Passing picturesque beaches and authentic fishing villages, we ride along the Ghanaian coast.
In Togo, known for the largest Voodoo market in the world, the Marche au Feticheurs (Fetish Market), the route becomes challenging again. Through hilly terrain and dense rainforests, we reach the capital of Togo, Lome. From Lome, we cross the border into Benin, the cradle of the Voodoo religion. After 8,100 adventurous kilometers, our motorcycle adventure ends in the capital of Benin, Porto-Novo.
Are 8,100 kilometers of Africa not enough for you? Then the Trans Africa Expedition is right for you.
Please note that this is an expedition.
