In 21 days you will visit the most beautiful places in New Zealand on our adventure tour with your motorbike and feel as if you have visited six different continents! We will take you through the North & South Island of the country. From tropical rainforests and idyllic beaches to glaciers, snow-capped mountains, sand dunes, volcanoes and primeval forests, you will get to know an incredible variety of this magnificent landscape! This country is pure adventure!
You will ride the top routes of New Zealand and have the opportunity to choose your favourite motorbike from various BMW models - how about a BMW F800GS? Favourite routes include the Rimutuka Ranges, Milford Road, Lewis and Lindis Pass. You will also ride the Haast Pass - the so-called motorbike heaven! No camera is able to capture this experience with such natural beauty in one picture. The feeling of riding this pass yourself is an incredible experience and a real highlight for any motorcyclist.
When you land at Auckland Airport, you will be met at the airport and taken to your hotel.
We'll pick you up at your hotel in the morning and take you to our base, where your motorbike will be set up for you and we'll take care of the paperwork. Then it's straight off! From Auckland, you'll ride along the coast of the Tasman Sea, up the west coast and through the Waipoua Forest. This forest is home to ancient kauri trees over 50 metres tall, including ‘Tane Mahuta’ - the king of the forest in Maori folklore. We spend the night on the edge of the remote and unspoilt Hokianga Harbour, overlooking the 300 metre high sand dunes on the other side of the harbour.
We cross Hokianga harbour on a charming little car ferry. We drive along the traffic-free roads of Northland, a golden, green and blue world of beaches, bays and subtropical delights. This afternoon we explore historic Russell Kororareka, New Zealand's first capital.
We head south along the coast and enjoy the view of the Pacific. Then we turn inland and drive through Auckland, the ‘City of Sails’ and a vibrant multicultural centre of New Zealand.
Continue south out of the city through the rolling emerald green countryside to the Coromandel Peninsula. This area is renowned for its outstanding natural beauty and fantastic motorcycling roads. At every turn there are breathtaking views of lush forests, rugged hills and turquoise seas.
We drive the circuit around the Coromandel Peninsula and enjoy lunch in the local community. We admire the bush-covered hills and enjoy the breathtaking views of the coast. On the way to Tauranga, we explore the Karangahake Gorge, one of the most scenic drives on the North Island. Then it's on to Rotorua, home to a geothermal wonderland of volcanic pools.
Today you have time to explore the volcanic boiling mud pools and the natural geysers in the Whakarewarewa Maori village. You can also visit the Agrodome, take the gondola ride up and enjoy the spectacular views. Rotorua has a lot to offer - you can also try your hand at tobogganing or discover the wild ride of ‘zorbing’. A Maori cultural show and a hangi feast are planned for the evening, where you will also have the opportunity to see the national bird - the kiwi!
Lake Taupo, located in the centre of the North Island, is a popular holiday destination for locals. We stop for lunch and visit the thundering Huka Falls, known for their distinctive blue-green colour. We cross the Ahimanawa and Maungaharuru mountain ranges and drive through the vineyards of Eskdale before arriving in Napier, New Zealand's home of Art Deco.
The tour continues southwards through the wine-growing region. We also see the lush orchards of Hawkes Bay. We head over windy Rimutakas, north of Wellington, where charming houses cling to the hills overlooking Wellington's harbour. Explore the capital and visit the Beehive - New Zealand's government building. Visit the fabulous Te Papa Museum and take a look at the country's history.
We cross the Cook Strait by ferry and travel along the legendary road of the Marlborough Sounds - the Queen Charlotte Drive. We follow the road through dense pine forests to Nelson, the largest fishing harbour in Australasia with its unique microclimate. Nelson has the most hours of sunshine in the country and is known for its art and culture.
We head south over the Mt Hope Saddle and through Buller Gorge. We stop for lunch in the old gold mining town of Murchison and then drive over the famous Lewis Pass with its world-class mountain scenery. Hanmer Springs lies in a basin of forest-covered mountains and is home to natural hot springs where we can recover from the pain.
Today is a rest day. You can relax in Hanmer Springs or take a day trip to Kaikoura. You can watch whales here by boat or from the air. Depending on the season, migrating humpback whales, pilot whales, blue whales and southern right whales can be seen. Afterwards, you can enjoy freshly caught boiled crayfish on the shores of Kaioura.
Today takes us over the spectacular Lewis Pass, home to breathtaking scenery and an ancient Maori greenstone track. We'll stop for lunch in Reefton, a historic gold mining town, and then head to Punakaiki on the wild west coast. You can watch the ocean crash thunderously through the famous Pancake Rocks - rock formations that were created 30 million years ago.
The West Coast Road runs between the turquoise-coloured Tasman Sea and the striking Southern Alps. Known as ‘The Ice Run’, this road is famous for the impressive glacier spectacle. These ice formations are even more breathtaking from above - a helicopter can take you on an unforgettable journey!
Travelling north on this beautiful and wild road, the landscape changes dramatically! As we head inland on the famous Haast Pass, we will see more and more virgin forest. On these winding roads we see lots of rivers and waterfalls - absolutely breathtaking! We continue towards Wanaka, crossing New Zealand's highest road, the Crown Ranges. Today's destination is the adventure capital Queenstown!
We explore Queenstown: paragliding, jet boating, bungee jumping and white water rafting are just some of the exciting adventures you can try. Take a drive along the waterfront to Glenorchy, a famous filming location for Lord of the Rings. Visit a vineyard for lunch or the historic gold mining town of Arrowtown, with its charming cafés and art galleries.
Today we drive to Te Anau in Fiordland. Fiordland is a 1.2 million hectare area of remote and unspoilt beauty. This is one of the few places on earth with unspoilt wilderness. Waterfalls cascade hundreds of metres into pristine forested valleys. The reflective surfaces of the fjords mirror the majestic towering mountains that surround them. Dolphins, seals and fjordland crested penguins are at home here. The word ‘silence’ takes on a whole new meaning here. Another great excursion is to the glowworm caves of Te Anau, which you can reach by boat if you wish.
A fantastic drive along the shores of Lake Te Anau awaits us, then we pass through the famous Homer Tunnel, which was carved into the rock by hand in the 1930s. On the other side of the tunnel, we discover breathtaking mountain scenery and winding roads. On this trip, you should definitely keep an eye out for the cheeky, very intelligent Kea alpine parrots. Today we also take a two-hour Milford Sound boat trip.
We drive through the centre of Otago, home to vast rolling landscapes, rugged snow-capped mountains, clear blue rivers, deep gorges and grassy hills until we arrive in the Scottish-influenced city of Dunedin. Victorian architecture and the divine Otago Peninsula make Dunedin a particularly attractive place to visit. We drive through the fly-fishing capital of New Zealand, Gore, where we stop for lunch and visit an aircraft museum and workshop.
Dunedin is the heritage and natural history of New Zealand. You can choose to explore the city or head to the Otago Peninsula to see giant albatross birds and yellow-eyed penguins. The peninsula offers winding streets with stunning coastal views, while the city is home to historic buildings, museums and art galleries waiting to be explored.
We leave Dunedin for a great drive across the Maungatua Ranges. The area is typical of the arid Maniototo region - barren, tussock-covered rolling hills await us. We drive through Cromwell, the ‘fruit bowl of New Zealand’ and take the Lindis Pass with its alpine landscape between the Lindis Valley and the Ahuriri River to Lake Tekapo.
Lake Tekapo offers us a breathtaking view of Mt Cook, the highest mountain in New Zealand. At the Church of the Good Shepherd, we admire both the bronze statue of a shepherd dog and the fantastic view of the turquoise-coloured lake. We continue to Christchurch via Burkes Pass, Mount Hutt and the Canterbury Plains.
We enjoy a farewell dinner together and say goodbye to our new friends, revelling in memories that will stay with us for a lifetime
