title: CHINA - SHANGRI LA
October is the perfect month to travel through Sangri La county in the Yunnan Province of southwest China. Our tour takes you to Shangri La County formerly known as Zhongdian County. The area is renowned for its historical Tibetan treasures and is a paradise for photographers. Named after the fictional land of Shangri La in the James Hilton novel Lost Horizon, the area is referred to as Gyalthang by the locals.
We'll visit the ancient Square Street (Sifang Jie) in Lijang, several Buddhist monasteries with their antique watch towers, and the Tiger Leaping Gorge. One of the last true wilderness areas, Yading National Park, awaits us with its holy mountains and lakes. The shore of Lake Bitahai lies 3500 m above sea level and the beautiful scenery which is set against the mountains and forests surrounding it is just stunning. The panoramic view of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain with its 13 peaks (18360 feet) and the beauty of the Tagong Grassland will take your breath away.
